'First Sweater Class’

This is a rare opportunity for you to learn how to knit your 'First Sweater' with a small group and get all the help you need!
Knitting a sweater takes a couple of months, so it’s a good idea to start now rather than during the busy winter / holiday season.
The 6 lessons are spread out to give you enough time to knit for each session. Please check the dates carefully. 
This ‘First Sweater Class’ is designed for beginner knitters (please check the skills requirement below), but if you have never knitted a top-down sweater before and want to learn all the steps, you are welcome to join too!

Skills required: You have knitted at least one hat.

Fee  - $120 for all 6 lessons

Dates - 6 Wednesdays; 12:30-2:00 4/26, 5/3, 5/17, 5/31, 6/7, 6/14

Lesson schedule

Please purchase your yarn from Knit House before the first lesson (Yarn list below).

Lesson 1 - 4/26
  • What do I need to do / know before starting to knit a sweater.
  • What is a gauge swatch?
  • How to choose my size? 
Lesson 2 - 5/3
  • How does ’Top-down’ work?
  • Learn various increasing stitches.
Lesson 3 - 5/17
  • Join into the round.
  • Knitting the sweater in the round.
Lesson 4 - 5/31
  • Separate sleeves and body.
  • Start working body.
Lesson 5 - 6/7
  • Start working sleeves.
  • How to shape sleeves.
Lesson 6 - 6/14
  • Pick up and Knit stitches for neckline.
  • Finishing 

Max: - 6 people (min 3 people)

Material

We have so many yarns to choose from at Knit House, but for this class, please choose from the yarns listed below.  They are easy to work for your first sweater.  

Also please avoid black or dark navy colors (dark colors make it difficult to see the stitches).

Required yardage - S/930 yards, M/1050 yards, L/1200 yards, XL/1350 yards.  The blue sample at the shop is M knitted with 'Shiny Happy Cotton'.


Needles
The needle size will vary depending on your yarn choice and how you knit.
Please bring following size of needles to the first class if you have.
